In a conjoined release from local homeless advocacy groups condemning prospective Aldermanic President, Jack Coatar, St. Louis Winter Outreach & others claimed he "does not serve the unhoused, does not serve St. Louis, and will not serve you". Coatar has admittedly, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, worked to oppose 'intentional encampments' and even allegedly gone so far as to attempt to shut-down a warming shelter in midWinter, complaining of building maintenance issues that led to a condemnation notice (later rescinded). His reasoning rests upon dubbing the practice of "setting-up a camp with social programs on-site" inhumane, juxtaposing it to similar situations in the downtown area.
